If you thought the technology in the 2002 flick, Minority Report was impressive, you can now own one of the very cool futuristic cars that Tom Cruise drove in that film.
One of the three custom-built Lexus 2054 concept cars made for the Cameron Crowe film will be put up for auction next month. The car currently has only 38 miles on the odometer, and is expected to fetch around $125,000 at auction, so get out your checkbooks if you want to own a part of future history.
Now, if you don’t have $125k lying around, there is a guy who is currently selling the black one of these cars on for the low, low price of $79k. Since the black one was only used in the background of the movie, it doesn’t have the sexy modern interior of the red one pictured.
The LF-A concept sports car was first revealed during a press conference at the North American International Auto Show in 2005. The two-seat design brings together sports car performance with the traditional Lexus luxury refinement. The LF-A was designed to signal a new era for Lexus styling, as well as achieving performance superiority against its competitors in terms of reliability, handling, speed and acceleration.
Jim Press, executive vice president and COO of Toyota Motor Sales, explains: “The Lexus LF-A is like no sports car we have ever built or even imagined. Currently only a concept, it is a realistic vision of how we might address the boundaries that define the exotic sports car landscape.”
The LF-A’s engine is capable of producing over 500 bhp, with a cubic capacity of less than 5.0 litres. The combination of optimised gearing, aerodynamics and lightweight design result in a maximum speed of around 200 mph.
A new styling direction
On the inside, the LF-A bears the characteristics of a luxury, high-speed cockpit which provides exceptional comfort and precise controls. Despite giving away five inches in length to the Porsche 911 Turbo, the Lexus’ wheelbase carries an extra nine inches over that of its rival. Standing 48 inches tall, it is almost exactly the same size as the Ferrari F430, and its 73.2 inches of width place.
Whilst making a major statement about Lexus’ definition of the “exotic sports car” concept, the LF-A also manages to express the dawn of new age for the global styling direction of the Lexus brand.
